Handel's Messiah

Central Coast Philharmonia performed Handel’s Messiah, one of the most enduring and beloved works in the choral repertoire, as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations.
First performed in Dublin in 1742 and famously composed in just 24 days, Messiah tells the story of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ through a rich sequence of choruses, arias, and recitatives. Over the centuries, the work has become a cornerstone of the choral tradition and a fixture of concert programs around the world.
For this performance, the Philharmonia was supported by the Central Coast Youth Orchestra, bringing together singers and instrumentalists in a large-scale presentation of Handel’s iconic score.
The performance featured a distinguished line-up of soloists:
- Hannah Greenshields – Soprano
- Rebecca O’Hanlon – Mezzo-soprano
- Warren Fisher – Tenor
- Ian Fisher – Bass
Reviews
- "Messiah is a monumental work that takes a lot of skill to bring off: I think the choir, soloists and orchestra did that on Saturday evening."
- "I especially loved the Hallelujah Chorus and found it quite emotional. It was lovely to see everyone standing and singing together especially in these uncertain times."
- "I was thrilled by the sound of the soloists and by the exquisite conducting by Patrick Brennan."
