Elijah
The oratorio Elijah (Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah Op. 70) gave voice to a mighty prophet who was plucked from obscurity and lent a quiet but strong voice amid dark and turbulent times. The story of Elijah reflected a timeless response to upheaval and injustice and the stand against corruption, resonating with the world today.
Elijah was a deeply human figure – one who wrestled with exhaustion, burnout and self-doubt. First performed in 1846, Elijah had become one of the most celebrated oratorios in the choral repertoire. Rich in emotional depth and musical brilliance, its themes of courage, doubt and moral conviction continue to speak to audiences around the world.
The concert featured Patrick Brennan as conductor, the Central Coast Youth Orchestra and the outstanding bass soloist David Greco, who brought Elijah to life with his glorious vocal strength and superb artistry.
