Hope & Consolation

Hope and Consolation was conceived as a reflective response to the shared experience of the COVID-19 pandemic, following a prolonged period during which extended lockdowns prevented communal music-making for more than two years. This concert marked a return to singing together and a renewed sense of connection through music.
The program combined contemporary choral works by 21st century composers Daniel Elder and Elaine Hagenberg with the enduring beauty of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. Together, these works formed a cohesive musical journey centred on remembrance, healing, and resilience.
Each piece was carefully selected to foster a sense of hope and consolation, speaking to collective experiences of loss, longing, and resilience faced during the pandemic.
Through its thoughtful programming, Hope and Consolation stood as a musical reflection on recovery and reconnection, affirming the power of shared song to uplift the human spirit.
Soloists:
- Grace Mitchell : Soprano
- Ian Fisher : Bass
